Father and Son Die After Snake Bite in Punjab’s Sangrur

National Times Bureau :- A tragic incident from Ananda village in Punjab’s Sangrur district has left the entire community in morning, after a father and his young son died following a snake bite. The incident occurred on August 6, turning what should have been a day of celebration into a day of grief, as it was also the young boy’s birthday.

According to villagers, 35-year-old Gurmukh Singh was working in the fields of his cousin, Jagtar Singh, and had taken his five-year-old son Kamaldeep with him to cut grass. After completing the work, Gurmukh was washing his hands and feet near the motor pump when Kamaldeep came running towards him. At that moment, a snake hidden in the grass suddenly emerged and bit them both.

Mistaking the bites for ordinary insect stings, neither father nor son mentioned the incident to anyone and went home as usual. Later that night, Gurmukh’s condition worsened, prompting him to tell his son about the snake bite. The following morning, both were rushed to a private hospital in Khanauri, but they collapsed on the way and died before receiving medical treatment.

The loss has devastated the poor family, leaving behind Gurmukh’s wife and an eight to nine-month-old daughter. Villagers and relatives are appealing to the authorities and the Punjab government to provide financial aid to help the family during this difficult time.
