Fatal late-night collision in West Nipissing leaves one dead, four hospitalized

Ontario (Rajeev Sharma): A serious two-vehicle crash in northern Ontario has claimed one life and sent four others to hospital, prompting an ongoing police investigation and temporary road closures in West Nipissing.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the scene on Nipissing Street late Saturday night, shortly before midnight. Emergency responders arrived to find extensive damage involving two vehicles and multiple injured occupants.

In a statement released Sunday, police confirmed that a 62-year-old woman from Sudbury, who was travelling as a passenger in one of the vehicles, died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts.

Paramedics, along with air ambulance crews from Ornge, transported four additional people from the second vehicle to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Authorities said the extent of their injuries was still being assessed as of Sunday morning.

To allow investigators to safely examine the scene, Front Street was shut down between Parker Street and Church Street for several hours overnight. Police advised motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes while emergency crews and collision reconstruction specialists carried out their work.

OPP technical collision investigators were deployed to analyze the circumstances leading up to the crash, including vehicle speeds, road conditions, and possible contributing factors.

“The investigation is continuing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” police said.
