Chandigarh, December 18: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday said that the state government has taken the situation in flood-affected areas very seriously and remains fully committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests under all circumstances.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Ram Karan on the first day of the Haryana Assembly’s winter session regarding permission to remove sand deposited in fields due to floods, the Chief Minister said he had personally visited the affected areas and interacted with farmers on the ground.
Saini said the government had deputed teams to assess whether excessive sand had accumulated in agricultural fields following the floods and to determine if its removal was necessary. However, field inspections revealed that the quantity of sand deposited was not significant. He added that whatever sand had accumulated was largely confined to the riverbed area. The farmlands located within embankments, for which compensation had already been provided by the government, were also inspected and did not show excessive sand deposition.
Emphasising the government’s priority, the Chief Minister said the BJP-led government is ensuring that farmers do not face hardship and that compensation is being provided for every small or big loss suffered due to natural calamities. “For the government, the welfare of farmers is paramount,” he asserted.
