Farmers’ Talks with Centre to Focus on MSP, Debt Waiver and Justice for Lakhimpur Kheri

Chandigarh, March 19, 2025: Sarwan Singh Pandher, a prominent farmer leader from Punjab, announced that the ongoing negotiations with the central government will focus on 12 key demands, including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), debt waiver for farmers and labourers, a crop insurance scheme, justice for the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, and withdrawal of all cases filed against farmers nationwide.

This will be the seventh round of talks, with leaders from 28 farmer organisations under the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and other forums attending. The meeting is scheduled for 11 AM in Chandigarh, with farmer leaders arriving early to strategize.

Pandher stressed that the farmers’ protest, which has lasted nearly 400 days, is not about prestige but about justice. He challenged those who think farmers have free time to join them for 10 days on the roads to understand their struggles.

Pandher voiced concerns about corporate policies affecting Indian agriculture, especially the upcoming India-US agreement that could harm local markets. He also highlighted the poor condition of roads in Punjab and Haryana, announcing plans to protest outside the homes of local MLAs to demand repairs.

Farmers will also observe Shaheed Diwas on March 23 to honour national martyrs. Pandher urged the youth to actively participate to strengthen the farmers’ cause.
