Ferozepur, April 4, 2025 — The farmers’ movement in Punjab gained fresh momentum as the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur) organized a massive conference at Dana Mandi Cantonment in Ferozepur. Hundreds of farmers, including women, gathered in support of their demands, with Jagjit Singh Dallewal at the center of the agitation.
Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike since November 26 over the MSP Bill and other issues, addressed the gathering despite his deteriorating health. Arriving in an ambulance, he was taken to the stage on a stretcher, vowing to continue the fight against what he called repeated betrayals by the government. He accused the authorities of using delaying tactics and condemned the police crackdown on farmers at Shambhu and Khanauri borders.
Dallewal also criticized the Waqf Board Bill, alleging it was an attempt to create divisions and suppress minority communities. He warned against government interference in Sikh Gurdwara Committees, calling it unacceptable. On the issue of rising U.S. tariffs, he claimed America was trying to weaken India’s economy and seize control of land. He urged the government not to bow to international pressure, warning of mass protests if necessary.
As protests continue, the Kisan Mahapanchayat has intensified across Punjab, with meetings scheduled in different districts until April 11. Anger against the AAP government is growing, especially after a recent police crackdown on protesting teachers in Bathinda’s Chauke village. In response, villagers have barred AAP leaders from entering.
Meanwhile, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal announced plans to visit villages in Punjab, sparking reactions from farmer leaders. “Let’s see how farmers welcome him,” remarked Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala.
The Kisan Mahapanchayat meetings will continue in Patiala on April 5, followed by Fatehgarh Sahib, Barnala, Muktsar, Fazilka, Amritsar, and Mansa in the coming days.
