Toronto, June 20, 2025 – The mysterious death of 22-year-old Indian student Sahil Kumar has sparked grief and growing concern, as his family demands clarity over circumstances surrounding his disappearance and subsequent discovery near Toronto’s waterfront.
Sahil, a resident of Haryana’s Bhiwani district, had recently moved to Canada in April and was enrolled in a web design course at Humber College. He was last seen on May 16 at Union Station in Toronto. After ten days of frantic searching, his body was found on May 26 near the industrial waterfront area, shocking family members who had been appealing for public help and police action.
Toronto Police have ruled out foul play, citing drowning due to misadventure or hypothermia as possible causes. Yet, the family remains unconvinced. “It just doesn’t make sense,” said Sahil’s cousin, pointing to inconsistencies like the absence of his passport, laptop, and phone, and the lack of CCTV footage from key locations.
The case is being handled collaboratively by Hamilton and Toronto police, as Sahil lived in Hamilton but was last traced in Toronto. Officers claim investigations are ongoing and are working with the family. Despite police assurances, the family is calling for greater transparency, pushing for access to surveillance footage and further probe into possible mishandling.
Sahil’s remains have since been returned to India. As they perform his last rites, his relatives continue to seek justice and clarity, hoping authorities will re-examine unanswered questions surrounding his tragic death.
