Evening Slot Revised for Attari–Wagah Ceremony as Heatwave Intensifies

Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): Authorities have announced a change in the schedule of the popular Beating Retreat ceremony at the Attari–Wagah Border, shifting it to a later time in the evening to help visitors and personnel cope with extreme summer conditions.

Officials from the Border Security Force confirmed that the daily event will now be conducted from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm, instead of the earlier 5:30 pm slot. The revision comes as temperatures continue to soar across Punjab, prompting adjustments to outdoor public activities.

The ceremony, known for its dramatic display of coordinated drills and ceremonial traditions, remains a major attraction for tourists. Crowds gather in large numbers each evening to watch Indian and Pakistani forces carry out synchronized movements, culminating in the lowering of the national flags on both sides.

The lively atmosphere, filled with patriotic chants and energetic performances, continues to make the event a unique experience for spectators. Despite the timing change, officials expect turnout to remain high, especially during weekends and holiday periods.

Visitors have been encouraged to arrive ahead of time to avoid last-minute rush and to ensure a comfortable viewing experience. The ceremony continues to serve as a significant cultural and symbolic event, reflecting both rivalry and ritual at one of the most prominent border crossings in the region.
