Ensuring crop procurement and timely payment is government’s priority: Cabinet Minister Ranbir Gangwa

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana’s Minister for Public Works and Public Health Engineering, Ranbir Gangwa, emphasized on Saturday, April 4, 2026, that the state government’s primary focus remains the seamless procurement of crops and ensuring timely payments to farmers. During an inspection of the Hisar Grain Market, the Cabinet Minister asserted that the new systems implemented in the mandis are designed entirely in the interest of local farmers. These measures aim to prioritize the purchase of local produce while bringing much-needed transparency and accountability to the entire procurement cycle.

Accompanied by senior administrative officials, Gangwa held a detailed meeting with farmers, arhtiyas (commission agents), and traders to address their grievances and provide clarifications on the new regulatory framework. He stated that the upgraded mandi management system is a strategic step toward protecting farmers’ interests, ensuring they do not face any hurdles while selling their hard-earned produce. The Minister directed officials to execute the purchase process in a fair, transparent, and time-bound manner, leaving no room for operational delays.

Key directives for the 2026 procurement season:

  • Zero Tolerance for Negligence: Minister Gangwa issued a stern warning to procurement agencies and market committee staff, stating that any irregularity or laxity in duties would invite strict disciplinary action.
  • Appointment of Nodal Officers: To maintain effective oversight, the state government has appointed dedicated nodal officers for each mandi. These officials are tasked with monitoring daily arrivals, moisture content checks, and the swift lifting of purchased stock.
  • Financial Transparency: The Minister reiterated that the digital payment system is being closely monitored to ensure that funds reach the farmers’ verified bank accounts without any unauthorized deductions or delays.
  • Infrastructure Readiness: Officials were instructed to ensure that basic amenities, including drinking water, electricity, and proper shade, are maintained at the grain markets for the convenience of visiting farmers.

The Cabinet Minister concluded the visit by assuring the farming community that the Haryana government is fully committed to a “farmer-first” approach. By streamlining the logistics and financial aspects of the mandi system, the administration aims to set a benchmark for efficient agricultural governance. Senior district officials and representatives from the market committee were present during the review to coordinate the immediate implementation of the Minister’s instructions.
