Bathinda, October 28, 2025: Eighty-two-year-old farmer Mahinder Kaur from Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda has refused to forgive actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, despite the latter’s public apology in court over her controversial remarks made during the farmers’ protest.
Kangana appeared before a Bathinda court earlier this week, where she apologized for her 2020 social media post that had allegedly defamed the elderly farmer. The actor expressed regret, saying her comments were made “knowingly or unknowingly.” However, Kaur remains unmoved by the apology.
“She never came to meet me in person. I cannot forgive her,” Mahinder Kaur said while speaking to reporters. “She is a big actress and politician, and I am just a small farmer. Because of her, I had to go through legal trouble at this age. The government and people have to bear the cost of her actions,” she added.
Due to ill health, Mahinder Kaur could not attend the hearing and was represented by her husband, Labh Singh. The couple lives in a modest home near the local bus stop, cultivating about 13 acres of farmland. Their son, Gurdas Singh, is battling health complications and relies on a urinary bag. “My mother has worked tirelessly all her life, but her strength is fading now,” he shared.
For the family, the case represents more than a legal battle—it is about reclaiming dignity and respect. Labh Singh said, “We will continue this fight. She may have apologized in court, but only God knows what will happen next. It is faith that gives us the courage to stand up for what’s right.”
The defamation case dates back to December 2020, when Kangana Ranaut allegedly misidentified Mahinder Kaur in a tweet during the farmers’ protests, claiming that elderly women protesters were being paid to participate. Kaur filed a criminal complaint under Sections 499 and 500 of the IPC, accusing the actor of tarnishing her reputation.
Despite Kangana’s apology and bail, Mahinder Kaur and her family remain determined to see the case through. For them, it is not about fame or revenge, but about ensuring accountability and respect for the elderly farmer who became a symbol of resilience during the protest.
