Thrissur (Rajeev Sharma): Eight people lost their lives after the car they were travelling in crashed into a lorry parked along a highway in Thrissur district late Friday night, police said.
The fatal collision took place at around 11.40 pm at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam, when the car reportedly struck the stationary lorry. The impact proved fatal for all eight occupants, with the victims dying at the scene.
According to the police, the vehicle was registered in Tamil Nadu, and the people inside are believed to have been students from the neighbouring state. Their identities and other details were yet to be officially confirmed.
The car was reportedly travelling from the Guruvayur side towards Kodungallur when the crash occurred.
Following the accident, local residents joined fire and rescue teams and police personnel in the operation to remove the victims from the badly damaged vehicle. The bodies were subsequently shifted to the mortuary at Thrissur Medical College for further procedures.
Police have begun examining the circumstances surrounding the collision, including how the parked lorry was positioned on the highway and the events leading up to the crash.
The accident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by vehicles parked on highways, particularly during late-night hours when visibility can be limited.
