The festival, marking the end of Ramzan, was observed peacefully, although isolated incidents of clashes were reported in some regions.
Celebrations Across Major Cities
In Delhi, thousands of worshippers, including children and the elderly, thronged Jama Masjid under tight security. Paramilitary forces were deployed to ensure order. After prayers, people visited restaurants and neighbors to enjoy traditional sweets like sewai and kheer.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings on social media, wishing for harmony, hope, and success for all.
In Uttar Pradesh, Eid prayers were peacefully conducted at over 31,500 locations, including Lucknow, Aligarh, Varanasi, and Rampur. AI-powered drones monitored security, and in Sambhal, worshippers were welcomed with a shower of flowers. However, some in Aligarh protested the proposed Waqf Bill by wearing black armbands.
Kashmir’s biggest Eid congregation was at Hazratbal Shrine, but authorities prohibited prayers at the historic Jama Masjid and Eidgah in Srinagar. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq claimed he was placed under house arrest.
Incidents of Clashes and Protests
In Meerut, a minor dispute escalated into a violent clash, injuring several people.
In Saharanpur, some youths waved Palestine flags and raised slogans, prompting a police search.
In Gurugram’s Nuh district, an old rivalry led to a post-prayer clash, injuring five people.
In Rajasthan’s Tonk, a massive Eid procession caused a traffic jam but no communal tension.
Festivities and Communal Harmony
Gujarat saw peaceful celebrations, with large gatherings at mosques. In Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, a Hindu family continued a 50-year-old tradition of escorting the city qazi to Eid prayers on a horse carriage.
In Hyderabad, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi conveyed Eid wishes at Mir Alam Eidgah, where thousands gathered for prayers. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Jharkhand, Telangana, and Nagaland also witnessed grand celebrations, with people embracing the spirit of brotherhood, preparing festive delicacies, and praying for peace.
