Edmonton Home Sealed After Drug Activity Probe Following Resident Complaints

Edmonton (Rajeev Sharma): Authorities in Edmonton have shut down a residential property linked to ongoing illegal activity, following months of complaints from local residents and a detailed investigation by enforcement agencies.

The action was carried out by the Alberta Sheriffs under the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit after a year-long probe into a house in north Edmonton. The investigation began in April 2025 when neighbours raised concerns about unusual activity, including a steady flow of short-term visitors and individuals loitering or behaving erratically in the vicinity.

Officials said the inquiry uncovered consistent evidence of drug-related operations at the site. The SCAN unit worked in coordination with the Edmonton Police Service to gather proof and assess the situation.

After an initial warning failed to bring any improvement, authorities moved to seek legal intervention. A court order was subsequently granted to close the property for 90 days. The residence, located on 159 Avenue NW, was required to be vacated and secured starting April 2, with monitoring measures put in place.

In addition to the temporary closure, further restrictions imposed by the court will remain effective until June 2028. Officials confirmed that the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.

Law enforcement representatives said the case highlights the impact of community reporting in tackling neighbourhood issues. They stressed that properties linked to illegal activities will face strict action, particularly when voluntary compliance is not achieved.

The SCAN unit operates under provincial legislation designed to address problem properties through legal measures, holding owners accountable for unlawful activities occurring on their premises.
