Kolkata, February 10: The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday revised the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in West Bengal, announcing that the state’s final electoral rolls will now be published on February 28.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, the Commission said the revision was carried out in compliance with an order passed by the Supreme Court on February 9. Earlier, the final voters’ list for the state was scheduled to be released on February 14, ahead of the elections slated to be held after the completion of the SIR process.
“…in compliance with the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s direction, the Commission has decided to revise the programme of the ongoing SIR in the State of West Bengal,” the EC stated in its communication.
According to the revised timeline, hearings related to notices issued during the exercise will be completed by February 14. The scrutiny of documents and disposal of related cases will be carried out by February 21.
The rationalisation of polling stations is scheduled to be completed by February 25, while health parameter checks will conclude by February 27. The final electoral roll for West Bengal will be published on February 28, as per the updated schedule shared by the CEO’s office.
The SIR exercise is a key preparatory step aimed at ensuring accurate and updated voter lists ahead of the upcoming elections in the state.
