Leh (Ladakh), November 1, 2025: An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck Leh on Saturday evening, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The tremor occurred at 5:42 pm at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres beneath the surface.
The NCS shared the details on X, stating, “EQ of M: 4.1, On: 01/11/2025 17:42:26 IST, Lat: 36.69 N, Long: 75.51 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Leh, Ladakh.” No casualties or property damage have been reported so far.
Experts note that shallow earthquakes, like the one recorded in Leh, tend to cause stronger surface shaking compared to deeper ones, as seismic waves travel a shorter distance to reach the ground. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, but there have been no reports of aftershocks or disruptions in essential services.
Residents of Leh and nearby areas reportedly felt mild tremors but remained calm. Disaster management teams have been alerted as a precautionary measure.
