Dr. Jagdeep Singh Assumes Charge as Punjabi University Vice Chancellor, Outlines Vision for Industry-Aligned Education

Patiala, May 21, 2025 — Dr. Jagdeep Singh officially took charge as the Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University today, receiving a warm welcome from faculty, staff, and university officials. In his inaugural address, Dr. Singh shared a forward-looking vision focused on aligning the university’s curriculum with industry demands to enhance student employability.

Expressing gratitude for being entrusted with the leadership of his alma mater, Dr. Singh emphasized the importance of modernizing academic programs. “Educational institutions must evolve to meet the changing needs of the workforce,” he said. Plans include involving industry professionals in curriculum design through the Board of Studies and launching short-term certificate courses tailored to market requirements.

Acknowledging the university’s legacy in advancing higher education, especially in the Malwa region, Dr. Singh reiterated a commitment to promoting Punjabi language and culture. “Punjabi University has been a beacon of learning and culture. We must now build on this foundation with future-ready initiatives,” he added.

He thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, and the Punjab Cabinet for the appointment. Senior faculty, including Prof. Narinder Kaur Multani, Prof. Sanjeev Puri, and Dr. Balraj Singh Saini, were present at the ceremony.

Dr. Singh brings extensive academic and administrative experience. He previously served as Registrar at IISER Mohali and Central University of Punjab and has held key positions in Punjab’s Department of Higher Education. A Ph.D. in Biological Sciences with post-doctoral work in molecular biology, his research focuses on cancer epigenetics and aging. He is also the author of Science and Spirituality: The Journey Within.
