National Times Bureau: The final solar eclipse of the year will take place on Sunday, September 21, offering a celestial spectacle to skywatchers in select regions of the world. This partial eclipse will begin at 1:29 pm EDT (10:59 pm IST) and end at 5:53 pm EDT (3:23 am IST, September 22).
The maximum phase of the eclipse, when the Moon covers the largest portion of the Sun, will occur at 3:41 pm EDT (1:11 am IST). Viewers in Antarctica, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans will be able to witness the event, though India will not be in the viewing path as the Sun will have set by then.
According to space.com, the eclipse will be visible in Antarctica between 4:49 am and 6:53 pm local time, in Australia from 6:13 am to 7:36 am, and in New Zealand from 5:41 am to 8:36 am.
Astronomy enthusiasts in India and other regions outside the visibility zone can still watch the event through live online broadcasts. Experts advise using eclipse glasses with proper solar filters for safe viewing, cautioning that regular sunglasses do not provide adequate protection.
This will be the last solar eclipse of 2025. The next, an annular eclipse, is expected on February 17, 2026, and will be visible in Antarctica as well as partially in Africa, South America, and parts of the surrounding oceans. Later in August 2026, skywatchers will experience a total solar eclipse.
