Washington D.C. (Rajeev Sharma): The US President Donald Trump revealed a significant development in US-Pakistan relations, announcing that the two nations have struck a deal to jointly develop Pakistan’s massive oil reserves.
Taking to his Truth Social account, Trump wrote, “We have just concluded a deal with the country of Pakistan, whereby Pakistan and the United States will work together on developing their massive oil reserves. We are in the process of choosing the oil company that will lead this partnership. Who knows, maybe they’ll be selling oil to India someday!”
Trump also highlighted ongoing trade negotiations with several other nations, including South Korea, which he said currently faces a 25% tariff but has made an offer to reduce it. He stated he would be meeting with the South Korean Trade Delegation to discuss the proposal further.
The US-Pakistan oil deal is being viewed as a major geopolitical and economic move, potentially reshaping regional energy dynamics. Analysts suggest that such a partnership could help boost Pakistan’s struggling economy while also strengthening Washington’s strategic presence in South Asia.
If successful, the deal could pave the way for future energy exports from Pakistan.
However, the part where he mentioned that “maybe they’ll be selling oil to India someday” is being considered as a sarcastic dig against New Delhi because since the deadliest Pahalgam attack, India has suspended business with Pakistan.
