Digital Oversight in Elections: Poll Dashboard to Track Every Activity in Haryana

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): The Haryana State Election Commission is intensifying its focus on digital transparency and real-time monitoring through the effective implementation of the Poll Dashboard portal and its integrated mobile application. During a high-level video conference held in Chandigarh on Tuesday, May 5, Secretary of the State Election Commission Gaurav Kumar met with Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers from various districts to review preparation strategies. The commission emphasized that the digital framework is designed to provide accurate, transparent, and time-bound supervision of every phase of the electoral process. All concerned officials have been directed to ensure that information related to their respective polling stations is updated on the portal well in advance to prevent any administrative delays on the day of the vote.

Central to this digital strategy is the identification and registration of specific officers responsible for real-time data entry. Secretary Kumar mandated that the names and mobile numbers of these individuals be recorded on the portal to ensure accountability for the information provided via the mobile app. The Poll Dashboard will serve as a comprehensive monitoring tool for pre-election activities, including the departure and arrival of polling parties, the conduct of mock polls, and the official commencement of voting. Throughout the polling day, the system will be used to track and report voting percentages at regular intervals, providing a clear picture of voter turnout across the state as it happens.

Beyond the active polling hours, the dashboard will also oversee critical post-voting procedures. Detailed instructions were shared regarding the protocol for voters remaining in queues after 6:00 PM and the timely execution of the “Poll Close” function once the process is complete. Officials were reminded of the strict requirements for sealing Electronic Voting Machines according to established regulations and the prompt submission of all relevant records during the counting phase. The meeting also addressed the status of voter slip distribution, with the Secretary urging officers to ensure that every eligible citizen receives their slip on time to facilitate a smooth voting experience.

During the interactive session, feedback was gathered from district-level officers to address local challenges and provide necessary guidance for the upcoming elections. The commission’s push for a tech-driven approach underscores a broader commitment to modernizing electoral governance in Haryana. By integrating real-time data and strict reporting timelines, the state hopes to eliminate discrepancies and enhance public trust in the democratic process.
