Zagreb, June 18, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined the importance of peaceful diplomacy during his meeting with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in Zagreb. He and Plenković agreed that whether in Europe or Asia, “solutions to problems cannot come from battlefields” and reaffirmed that dialogue and diplomacy must lead efforts to resolve global challenges.
The two leaders also committed to accelerating bilateral cooperation. Modi announced plans to triple the pace of India–Croatia ties and strengthen defence collaboration. He thanked Croatia for its steadfast support in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism and expressed optimism about deepening partnerships in areas such as digital technology, space, renewable energy, maritime infrastructure, tourism, and hospitality.
The comments come against the backdrop of worsening hostilities between Israel and Iran, which have raised global concern. Modi stressed that global security and stability depend on diplomatic engagement rather than military confrontation.
Modi is the first Indian prime minister to visit Croatia. He was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the airport by Plenković and is scheduled to meet President Zoran Milanović. The visit marks the final leg of his three-nation tour, following trips to Cyprus where he received the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III and Canada, where he attended the G7 summit.
The two sides are expected to finalise defence cooperation plans and initiatives aimed at amplifying people-to-people connections and trade ties between India and Croatia in the coming months.
