Mumbai (Rajeev Sharma): Veteran Bollywood icon Dharmendra has returned home after being discharged from Breach Candy Hospital, where he had been admitted for medical tests earlier this week. The 89-year-old actor will now continue his recovery under home care, his family confirmed on Wednesday morning.
According to Dr. Pratit Samdani, the senior physician overseeing his treatment, Dharmendra was released around 7:30 a.m. “He is stable and will receive continued medical supervision at home as per the family’s wishes,” the doctor said, refraining from sharing details about the nature of his ailment.
In a formal statement, the Deol family thanked well-wishers for their prayers while urging restraint from speculation. “Mr. Dharmendra has been discharged and is recuperating at home. We sincerely request everyone to respect his privacy and that of our family. Your love, support, and prayers mean a lot to us,” read the message issued by Sunny Deol’s public relations team.
An ambulance was seen leaving the hospital for the Deol family residence in Juhu, where arrangements for the actor’s continued treatment have been made.
The news follows a wave of false online reports on Tuesday claiming Dharmendra’s demise, which the family swiftly denied. Daughter Esha Deol took to Instagram to clarify, “Papa is doing well and recovering. Please don’t spread unverified news and allow us privacy.”
His wife, actress and MP Hema Malini, also voiced her displeasure over the rumours, calling out the media for “irresponsible and insensitive” reporting. In a post on X, she wrote, “It’s disappointing that false news is being circulated when he is improving. Such behaviour shows a lack of respect for a person’s dignity and the family’s peace.”
The veteran actor, fondly remembered for classics like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, and Satyakam, received visits from several Bollywood colleagues during his hospital stay, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan, who reportedly came to wish him well.
Dharmendra’s family has assured fans that he is on the path to recovery and appreciates the continued outpouring of love from across the country.
