Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday spoke to public representatives of Chamoli district to take stock of the situation after a cloudburst hit Tharali late Friday night.
According to an official statement, the Chief Minister expressed grief over the incident and urged local leaders to extend full cooperation to the district administration in relief and rescue work. He also directed the local MLA to remain on-site and personally monitor the response efforts.
The cloudburst triggered an immediate mobilization of the district administration, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and police teams, who reached the affected area to begin operations.
Confirming the incident on X, Dhami wrote, “Late last night, a tragic report of a cloudburst was received in the Tharali area of Chamoli district. The district administration, SDRF, and police have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am in constant contact with the administration and monitoring the situation closely. I pray for the safety of all.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand on Friday, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and very heavy rain across several regions.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army also joined the rescue efforts on Saturday, deploying around 50 personnel from Rudraprayag to assist in relief operations in Chamoli.
