New Delhi : South African batting star Dewald Brevis has been officially signed by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) under the Indian Premier League (IPL) Player Regulations 2025-2027. The move was made in accordance with clause 6.6 on Replacement Players, which allows franchises to recruit players at a fee not exceeding that of the injured or unavailable cricketer.
The regulation further states that if a replacement is recruited during a season, the player’s fee is adjusted to reflect the matches already played before his registration and other deductions under the contract.
Brevis enjoyed a memorable debut season with CSK, scoring a quickfire half-century that helped the five-time champions end an otherwise disappointing IPL 2025 campaign on a high with a win against table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT).
Before joining CSK, Brevis featured in ten matches for Mumbai Indians (MI) between 2022 and 2024, scoring 230 runs at an average of 23.00 and a strike rate of 133.72, with a best of 49. In IPL 2025, he made 225 runs for CSK in six innings at an impressive average of 37.50 and a strike rate of 180.00, which included two half-centuries. He was brought in mid-season as a replacement for bowler Gurjanpreet Singh, who had been bought for ₹2.2 crore but was sidelined due to injury.
CSK, however, endured a poor run overall, finishing 10th in the 2025 season with only four wins from 14 matches. The franchise also missed out on the playoffs in 2024, where they ended in fifth place after winning seven games out of 14.
