Devotional Fervour Marks Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Across India

CHANDIGARH (Gurpreet Singh): The birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru, was observed with immense devotion and reverence across the country on Wednesday. The day, celebrated as Parkash Purb, transformed towns and villages into vibrant centers of spiritual celebration, echoing with Gurbani and the spirit of sewa (selfless service).

A Day of Faith and Reflection

From Punjab to Delhi, and beyond, Gurdwaras were illuminated as thousands of devotees gathered to pay homage to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, whose teachings continue to guide humanity toward peace, humility, and compassion. The soothing strains of Kirtan filled the air as the faithful participated in prayers, community kitchens (Langars), and Nagar Kirtans (religious processions).

President Murmu’s Message of Inspiration

Extending greetings on the occasion, President Droupadi Murmu said Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s life and message inspire people to walk on the path of truth, righteousness, and equality. “On this sacred day, I convey my best wishes to all citizens, especially the Sikh community in India and abroad. May the light of Guru Nanak’s wisdom continue to guide us in building a compassionate and harmonious world,” she wrote in her post on X.

CM Mann Pays Respects at Golden Temple

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann marked the day by offering prayers at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar, accompanied by his wife, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur. The couple bowed before the Guru Granth Sahib and prayed for peace and prosperity for the state.

Speaking on the occasion, Mann said, “Guru Nanak Dev Ji gave humanity the eternal message of earning an honest living, sharing with others, and remembering God. His principles of equality and justice are timeless and essential for today’s world.” He urged people to follow the Guru’s ideals to foster unity and live in harmony with nature.

Greetings from Political and Religious Leaders

Several political and social leaders joined in extending their wishes. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, a senior leader from Delhi, said the Guru’s message transcends time and religion. “On this holy day, we remember the teachings of Guru Nanak Sahib, which remind us to serve humanity and remain humble. His divine wisdom is as relevant today as it was centuries ago,” Sirsa remarked.

Punjab Immersed in Celebration

Across Punjab, the occasion was marked by devotional activities, Kirtans, and large-scale Langars. Streets were adorned with lights, saffron flags, and flowers as devotees participated in religious processions carrying the Guru Granth Sahib with great reverence. Volunteers could be seen distributing food and water to passersby, embodying the spirit of service that Guru Nanak Dev Ji preached.

At the Golden Temple, thousands thronged the precincts to seek blessings, while the recitation of Asa Di Vaar at dawn created an atmosphere of spiritual tranquility. Similar scenes unfolded in Ludhiana, Patiala, and Jalandhar, where people came together to celebrate the life and message of the Guru.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message of universal brotherhood, equality, and devotion continues to resonate deeply across generations. As candles flickered in Gurdwaras and hymns filled the night air, the faithful renewed their commitment to live by the Guru’s timeless guidance — to be truthful, serve humanity, and see the divine presence in all beings.
