Delhi Traffic Alert Today: CJP’s Tiranga March At Connaught Place, Check Roads Likely To Be Hit From 3 PM

New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory for Friday, October 16, warning that movement around Connaught Place and several parts of central Delhi could be affected from 3 pm onwards. The advisory comes ahead of the proposed Tiranga march and protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Central Park in Connaught Place.

Commuters travelling through central Delhi have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra time and use public transport wherever possible. Traffic diversions may be introduced depending on the situation on the ground. The police have also urged motorists to follow instructions from traffic personnel and monitor official updates before setting out.

According to the traffic advisory, congestion or disruptions are possible on roads and at intersections around Connaught Place, Parliament Street and other parts of central Delhi.

The roads and stretches identified in the advisory include:

  • Sansad Marg (Parliament Street)
  • Baba Kharak Singh Marg
  • Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg
  • Basant Lane
  • Chelmsford Road
  • Minto Road
  • Barakhamba Road
  • Kasturba Gandhi Marg
  • Rafi Marg
  • Tilak Marg

Traffic may also be affected around the following locations:

Other intersections identified in the wider traffic arrangements include Panchkuian Roundabout, Ashoka Road–Jantar Mantar Road Roundabout, Jai Singh Road–Sansad Marg Crossing, the Connaught Place Outer Circle–Barakhamba Road T-Point and the RML Hospital Roundabout.

The list covers key routes used by office-goers, shoppers and people travelling towards government offices and other destinations in central Delhi. Motorists should note that the advisory warns of possible disruption; it does not mean every listed road will necessarily be closed.

Why Has Delhi Traffic Police Issued The Advisory?

The advisory comes ahead of a proposed gathering by CJP at Central Park, Connaught Place, on October 16. The party has called for a Tiranga march, also described as the “Lehra Do Tiranga” gathering.

The proposed demonstration is linked to the party’s campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and its demand for accountability over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls. CJP has also protested the detention and judicial custody of its leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.

Separately, the New Delhi Municipal Council has announced that Central Park will remain closed to the public on October 16 and 17 for administrative reasons.

The authorities have made arrangements to manage traffic and public order in the area. Commuters should not assume that the planned gathering will proceed without restrictions, and any traffic movement may depend on the situation at the venue.

How Can Commuters Avoid Traffic Jams In Central Delhi?

Delhi Traffic Police has advised people to plan their journeys ahead of time, allow additional travel time and use public transport wherever possible.

Those travelling to Connaught Place, New Delhi Railway Station or nearby commercial areas should check the latest route information before leaving. If possible, commuters can avoid unnecessary trips through the affected areas during the afternoon and evening.

Motorists should also follow diversions and directions issued by traffic personnel rather than relying solely on a previously planned route.

For traffic-related assistance, Delhi Traffic Police lists the helpline numbers 1095 and 011-25844444. Real-time updates should be checked through the department’s official channels, as restrictions may change according to the prevailing situation.
