New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): The Delhi High Court on Thursday agreed to hear on Friday a public interest litigation seeking a specialized probe by the National Investigation Agency into the July 20 Sansad Chalo protest staged over the alleged NEET examination paper leak. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia allowed the request for an urgent listing after advocate Barun Kumar Sinha argued that the demonstration had paralyzed normal life in the national capital, blocking major arterial roads and causing severe hardship to daily commuters.
Filed by Satish Kumar Aggarwal, a former vice-president of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, the petition contends that what was initially presented as a student-led agitation over competitive examination integrity was systematically transformed into a political maneuver. The plea alleges that the July 20 march involved coordinated violence, stone-pelting, property damage, attacks on media personnel, injuries to police officers, and an organized effort to breach Parliament security. Arguing that these actions transcend standard law-and-order concerns, the petitioner claims that the incident points to a larger conspiracy coordinated by foreign-backed and anti-national elements exploiting public unrest for broader strategic motives.
The petition specifically calls for scrutinizing the involvement of prominent public figures, political leaders, and institutional organizations. It highlights social activist Sonam Wangchuk’s participation, urging an examination into his institutional affiliations and foreign funding channels. Additionally, the plea notes the presence of author Arundhati Roy and alleges that leaders across opposition parties—including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Atishi, Dimple Yadav, Dharmendra Yadav, and Chandra Shekhar Azad—took over the demonstration and provoked participants to attempt entry into Parliament premises. The petitioner has prayed for court-monitored directions to consolidate all related first information reports, transfer the investigation from Delhi Police to the NIA or another central agency, and prosecute all individuals implicated in the violence.
