New Delhi, November 5, 2025 — In an effort to tackle Delhi’s worsening air quality, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has rolled out a large-scale road cleaning operation across the national capital. According to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office, 200 maintenance vans have been deployed under the Public Works Department (PWD) to clean and maintain all major roads.
The drive includes clearing debris, filling potholes, repairing road signage, and maintaining streetlights. Strict accountability measures have been put in place, with each van placed under the direct supervision of a Junior Engineer or Assistant Engineer.
Gupta said her government is determined to control pollution and warned that no negligence will be tolerated. She also revealed that 60 vans have been deployed by the Horticulture Department for pruning and trimming trees along PWD roads.
The campaign covers over 1,400 kilometres of PWD roads and aims to complete all major cleaning and maintenance within 45 days. Weekly reviews are being conducted by senior officials to ensure progress.
The Chief Minister emphasized that this drive is part of a broader mission to normalise pollution “hot spots,” monitor polluting industrial units and vehicles, and coordinate efforts across departments. “By cleaning and managing dust and debris on roads, the government aims to bring about a significant improvement in Delhi’s air quality,” Gupta said.
