New Delhi (National Times): Delhi’s Chief Minister-elect, Rekha Gupta, along with senior BJP leaders, is set to meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 8:50 PM today to formally claim the mandate to form the next government in the national capital.

Rekha Gupta, representing Shalimar Bagh, was appointed the Leader of the House during a BJP legislature party meeting. After a gap of 26 years, the BJP has secured power in Delhi once again, and Gupta will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister at Ramlila Ground this Thursday.

Who is Rekha Gupta?
Rekha Gupta is a prominent BJP leader who has built a strong political career, beginning with her involvement in student politics at Delhi University and progressing to several key roles within the party. A three-time councillor and former Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), she has played a pivotal role in the city’s civic affairs.

Gupta’s leadership was tested in the 2022 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, where she was the BJP’s mayoral candidate, facing off against AAP’s Shelly Oberoi. Though the election did not go in her favor, Gupta’s position within the party continued to strengthen. She is currently serving as the National Vice President of the BJP Mahila Morcha and has previously held the role of General Secretary in Delhi BJP.

Her political journey began at Daulat Ram College, where she made her mark as President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) during the 1996-97 session. She entered mainstream politics with her first electoral success in 2007, winning a councillor seat from North Pitampura.
