Day 116 of ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’: 153 Smugglers Nabbed, Drugs Seized Across Punjab

Chandigarh, June 25, 2025 — Punjab Police continues its aggressive crackdown under the ongoing anti-drug mission ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ as 153 drug smugglers were arrested on the 116th day of operations. The massive state-wide action led to the recovery of 1.8 kg of heroin, 2.4 kg of opium, and ₹28,890 in drug money.

The arrests, carried out under the supervision of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, took place simultaneously across all 28 police districts. With this latest action, the total number of arrests under the campaign has risen to 19,185 in just 116 days.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has reiterated his government’s resolve to eliminate the drug menace from Punjab. A five-member Cabinet Sub Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema continues to monitor the campaign closely to ensure comprehensive coordination and accountability.

Providing details of Wednesday’s operations, Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla stated that over 200 police teams, comprising more than 1,600 personnel and overseen by 102 gazetted officers, conducted coordinated raids at 533 locations. A total of 104 First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered during the day-long drive.

Police also checked 545 individuals under suspicion, leading to significant preventive measures across the state.

In line with the government’s three-pronged EDP strategy Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention the Punjab Police has also taken steps towards rehabilitation. On Wednesday alone, 85 individuals were convinced to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.

Officials affirmed that the operation will continue in full force to protect the future of Punjab’s youth and dismantle the networks feeding the state’s drug crisis.
