Chandigarh (National Times): In a political twist that has taken many by surprise, Dalvir Singh Khangura, popularly known as Dalvir Goldy, has officially rejoined the Congress Party, ending his brief stint with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Goldy’s return marks the end of a year-long estrangement from Congress that began when he was denied a ticket from Sangrur ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections—a decision that led him to switch sides and align with AAP. The Sangrur ticket had instead been granted to Sukhpal Singh Khaira, despite attempts by Khaira himself to pacify Goldy and persuade him to stay.
Upon joining AAP, Goldy pledged his full support to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, promising to work diligently to strengthen the party. His sudden departure now raises eyebrows within AAP’s ranks and adds a new layer of intrigue to Punjab’s political narrative.
However, Goldy clarified that his exit from AAP was not due to any internal conflict. “I have no personal differences with the Aam Aadmi Party or with CM Bhagwant Mann. It was just a strong emotional pull—homesickness for my original party—that led me back to Congress,” he said.
Goldy’s return brings into focus a standing Congress policy: Leaders who return to the party after switching sides are not eligible for tickets for six years. With Goldy back in the fold, all eyes are now on the Congress leadership to see whether they will enforce this rule or make an exception.
As Punjab’s political landscape adjusts to this latest development, Goldy’s re-entry into Congress could signal deeper shifts in party dynamics leading up to future elections.
