Bhind (Madhya Pradesh), October 21, 2025 — In a shocking case of caste-based brutality, a 25-year-old Dalit man was allegedly abducted, assaulted, and forced to drink urine twice in Bhind district, police said on Tuesday. Three men have been arrested in connection with the crime.
According to officials, the main accused targeted the victim after he quit his job as a driver. “Prima facie, the motive appears to be revenge after the victim stopped working for the accused,” said ASP Sanjeev Pathak.
The victim, a resident of Akutpura village under Surpura police station limits, alleged that he was kidnapped from his in-laws’ house in Gwalior’s Deendayal Nagar area on Monday. The accused allegedly took him to Bhind in an SUV, where they beat him and forced him to drink urine from a bottle.
“They later took me to Akutpura village, chained me with iron, and again forced me to drink urine,” the victim told reporters from the hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police identified the accused as Sonu Barua, Alok Sharma, and Chhotu Ojha. A case has been filed under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for kidnapping, assault, and inhuman treatment.
ASP Pathak said the victim had previously worked as a driver for Barua, a resident of Datawali village in Bhind, and left his job recently, which allegedly provoked the assault.
The incident follows a string of similar caste atrocities reported across Madhya Pradesh. Earlier this month, a Dalit youth in Katni district was assaulted and urinated upon for opposing illegal mining. In May, a man from Guna district was kidnapped and humiliated in Rajasthan, while another case in Ujjain in March involved similar acts of violence and public humiliation.
Human rights groups have expressed concern over the recurring pattern of such attacks in the state, calling for stronger enforcement of anti-atrocity laws and faster trials in caste crime cases.
