Chandigarh (National Times): In a bold and unprecedented move, the Punjab Government has suspended Vigilance Bureau Chief SPS Parmar, along with two senior officers, AIG Vigilance and SSP Vigilance, in what’s being described as a shocking attempt to shield those involved in a massive driving license scam.
Sources confirm that the suspended officers allegedly tried to interfere in the action being taken against scamsters, triggering a firm response from the state government.
“Direct action against those who save scamsters,” read an official statement, as news of the suspension broke.
Notably, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had made it very clear when he declared, “Whoever saves the corrupt will not be spared.” The statement is being viewed as a strong political message that even top officers in anti-corruption units will be held accountable if found compromising the system.
The scam, which involves fraudulent issuance of driving licenses, has raised serious questions about the role of internal oversight within the Vigilance Bureau itself. The government’s swift action suggests that the clean-up is far from over.
Investigations continue, and more suspensions or arrests are likely as the probe deepens.
