Congress Leader Pratap Singh Bajwa Issued Appearance Notice by Punjab Police Over Explosive Claim in TV Interview

Mohali (National Times): Punjab Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa has been issued an appearance notice by the SAS Nagar Police, summoning him for questioning on Saturday at 12 PM at the Cyber Crime Police Station, Phase 7.

The notice, served under FIR No. 19 dated 13/04/2025, cites sections 353(2) and 197(1)D of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The action is linked to Bajwa’s recent statement during a television interview, where he claimed that “50 hand grenades had entered Punjab, 18 were used in blasts, and 32 remain unaccounted for.”

The statement sparked immediate political and administrative reaction, with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann strongly criticizing Bajwa. The CM questioned the source of such sensitive information, remarking, “Even intelligence and central agencies don’t have this data. Are terrorists from Pakistan calling him directly?”

Mann further added that if Bajwa’s statement holds truth, it raises serious concerns over national security and his duty as a public servant to inform the authorities. “And if it’s false, he must be prepared to face action for spreading panic. Creating fear among the public is a serious offense,” Mann asserted.

The ongoing investigation aims to ascertain the authenticity of Bajwa’s claims and whether they constitute an attempt to incite public fear or spread misinformation.
