Complaint Filed in Ghaziabad as Golden Temple Sarovar Controversy Continues

National Times Bureau :- The controversy surrounding an incident at the sacred Sarovar of Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar has shown no signs of fading. The matter has now taken a legal turn after a formal complaint was filed in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, seeking action against a Muslim युवक accused of hurting Sikh religious sentiments.

The dispute began after a video surfaced on social media showing the youth performing ablution inside the holy Sarovar and uploading the reel online with objectionable captions. The clip quickly went viral, triggering widespread outrage within the Sikh community. Despite the individual issuing apologies on two separate occasions, his manner of apology failed to satisfy Sikh organizations.

Nihang Singh groups have alleged that the act was deeply disrespectful to Sikh traditions and violated the sanctity of the shrine. In their complaint, they stated that although Sikhs are often accused of taking the law into their own hands, they chose to approach the police and seek action strictly within the legal framework.

The complainants have demanded that the youth issue a public apology in accordance with Sikh maryada, warning that they possess complete personal details related to him. Following the complaint, Ghaziabad police confirmed that the matter is under investigation and that the youth, identified as Subhan Rangrez, a resident of Delhi, will be questioned.

Earlier, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had also taken serious note of the incident. SGPC officials reiterated that filming reels inside the Golden Temple complex is strictly prohibited, and dedicated sewadars are deployed to prevent such activities. Authorities had stated that if the viral video was found authentic, responsibility would also be fixed for lapses in on-duty supervision.

The issue has once again raised concerns over misuse of religious sites for social media content, with Sikh bodies demanding stricter enforcement of existing rules to preserve the sanctity of Sri Harmandir Sahib.
