CM Urges Maximum Participation in PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme to Cut Power Bills

Haryana Aims for Another 1 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations After Achieving First Target

Kaithal, July 12 — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday visited Pyoda village in Kaithal district to attend a program under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. He first inspected a solar rooftop system installed on a beneficiary’s house and discussed the benefits of the initiative. Saini highlighted that Haryana’s rollout of this scheme began in Kaithal itself, and he was pleased to personally witness its impact on residents. Solar systems, he said, not only promote green energy but also significantly reduce electricity bills for families.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister called upon people across the state to take full advantage of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and work toward minimising their electricity expenses.

He further shared that under the scheme, the government aims to install free 2-kilowatt solar systems on the rooftops of 1 lakh houses, primarily benefitting Antyodaya families (economically weaker sections). Once this target is met, the state plans to install solar systems on an additional 1 lakh homes. So far, 26,000 families have availed benefits under the scheme, including 1,707 families in Kaithal district.

Relief from High Electricity Bills

CM Saini said families with an annual income up to ₹1.8 lakh are eligible for subsidies from both central and state governments to install solar systems, providing significant relief from hefty electricity bills.

He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating this visionary scheme, which has laid the groundwork for a widespread solar infrastructure. The Chief Minister also congratulated all beneficiaries who have embraced the initiative.

24-Hour Power Supply under ‘Mhara Gaon Jagmag Gaon’ Scheme

Highlighting other power reforms, Saini said that out of Haryana’s 6,500 villages, over 5,800 now receive round-the-clock electricity under the Mhara Gaon Jagmag Gaon scheme. He urged the remaining villages to come forward and benefit as well.

Referring to past practices, he noted that prior to 2014, the previous government imposed surcharges arbitrarily, burdening consumers with higher electricity bills. In contrast, his government waived these surcharges to provide relief.

Saini concluded by reiterating his appeal for widespread adoption of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, emphasising its potential to transform household energy expenses and contribute to environmental sustainability.
