Uchana (Jind), April 20 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, while addressing a state-level event celebrating the birth anniversary of Saint Dhanna Bhagat in Palwan village of Uchana, called upon citizens to adopt the saint’s ideals and contribute to building a better society and nation. He emphasized that parents should educate their children and work towards eliminating caste-based discrimination and social divides to promote harmony.
Responding to demands put forth by the Dadan Khap, the CM announced the construction of a retaining wall for a village pond, a shed, and a room in Palwan. He also promised to complete the boundary wall and grill work of the Dadan Khap building and to construct a hall-cum-veranda. Additionally, the CM declared that a 40-kilowatt solar panel would be installed in the Dadan Khap building upon application, according to departmental norms.
He highlighted Saint Dhanna Bhagat’s life as a living example of social harmony, describing his personality as soothing and radiant like a full moon. A disciple of the revered Ramanandacharya, Dhanna Bhagat played a key role in spreading the Bhakti movement, especially in Rajasthan, where he is regarded as a pioneer.
The Chief Minister said saints and sages have always guided humanity towards righteousness, and preserving their teachings is a collective responsibility. To spread these teachings, the state has launched the “Sant Mahapurush Vichar Samman evam Prasar Yojana,” under which state-level events like this are organized.
He added that the government, inspired by Saint Dhanna Bhagat’s vision of a prosperous and content society, is working for the welfare and upliftment of all under the motto “Haryana Ek – Haryanvi Ek.” The CM also stressed the importance of these teachings in today’s era, marked by various social challenges. He mentioned that a public school named after the saint has been established in Kurukshetra to educate future generations about his life.
Addressing the issue of drug abuse, CM Saini labeled it a societal evil and urged citizens to support the government’s de-addiction campaigns, including statewide cyclothons aimed at raising awareness.
Former minister and BJP National Secretary Om Prakash Dhankar praised Haryana as a land of saints and commended the government for honoring them through such events that spread the message of social harmony. BJP State President Mohan Lal Kaushik noted that since 2014, India has seen significant ideological and social transformation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, and efforts are underway to pass the legacy of saints to future generations.
Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala, the event’s coordinator, suggested including Dhanna Bhagat’s life story in school curricula to inspire children. He emphasized that Saint Dhanna Bhagat, even at a young age, awakened a sense of unity in a time when Indian culture faced severe challenges.
The event began with floral tributes to the saint’s portrait, and the CM honored attending saints by draping them with shawls and receiving their blessings. A book on Dhanna Bhagat’s life was also unveiled during the ceremony.
Cabinet ministers Krishna Lal Panwar, Mahipal Dhanda, Dr. Arvind Sharma, Shyam Singh Rana, Krishna Kumar Bedi, Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr. Krishna Lal Middha, MPs Dharmbir Singh and Devender Atri, along with many other dignitaries and citizens, attended the event.
