Udham Singh Nagar, November 15: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday joined the Tribal Pride Day Celebration held at Shri Guru Nanak Inter College Ground in Nanakmatta to mark the 150th birth anniversary of freedom fighter and tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
Addressing the gathering, Dhami paid heartfelt tributes to Birsa Munda, describing him as a symbol of bravery, sacrifice, and tribal identity. He said Birsa Munda’s efforts to safeguard the rights, land, and cultural heritage of tribal communities continue to inspire people across the country. The Chief Minister added that the nationwide observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas reflects India’s deep respect for the contributions of tribal heroes.

Cultural performances, traditional dances, exhibitions, and awareness programmes highlighted tribal culture and achievements. Dhami also interacted with attendees and encouraged the youth to draw inspiration from Birsa Munda’s life and contribute actively to national progress.
Highlighting the central government’s efforts, Dhami said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought tribal communities into the mainstream of national development through expanded welfare schemes, scholarships, Eklavya schools, and entrepreneurship opportunities. He asserted that Uttarakhand is committed to accelerating these initiatives with transparency and efficiency.
The Chief Minister also outlined Uttarakhand’s schemes aimed at uplifting tribal communities, including improved education, livelihood opportunities, healthcare, road connectivity, and preservation of art and traditions. He stressed that the government is working to ensure development reaches even the most remote tribal regions.
Dhami concluded by emphasizing that Birsa Munda’s courage and legacy will continue to guide India’s journey toward inclusive growth and social harmony.
Birsa Munda, born on November 15, 1875, led a significant tribal movement against British rule in the late 19th century. His birth anniversary is celebrated across India as Birsa Munda Jayanti, coinciding with Jharkhand Foundation Day, marking the state’s creation on November 15, 2000.
