Dehradun, September 7: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami distributed appointment letters to 15 newly selected assistant teachers in government-run Ashram-style schools under the Tribal Welfare Department on Saturday. The ceremony took place at the Chief Sevak Sadan, Chief Minister’s residence.
Alongside the appointments, the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth over ₹15 crore. He said these initiatives would not only strengthen basic infrastructure in tribal regions but also enhance public facilities. Congratulating the teachers, he expressed confidence that the young educators would play a vital role in shaping the all-round development of the new generation.
Dhami highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, several historic steps have been taken for the upliftment of tribal communities. He recalled the Centre’s decision to celebrate the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda as ‘Tribal Pride Day.’ He also criticized past governments for limiting themselves to promises, while claiming the present government is delivering results on the ground.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the Union Government has tripled the budget for tribal development and launched schemes like Eklavya Model Schools, Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan, Van Dhan Yojana, and the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission. He added that Uttarakhand, inspired by Birsa Munda, is committed to preserving tribal traditions and cultural values. In this spirit, the state has enforced a strict anti-conversion law.
Sharing further details, Dhami said 128 tribal villages in Uttarakhand have been selected under the Prime Minister’s Tribal Development Village Campaign. At present, four Eklavya residential schools operate in Kalasi, Mehrawana, Bajpur, and Khatima, offering free education and accommodation to tribal students. A proposal has also been sent to open such schools in Pithoragarh for the Bhotia and Raji tribes.
Currently, 16 Ashram-style government schools and three ITI institutes are functional in the state, providing technical education to tribal youth. Scholarships and coaching support are also being given to prepare students for competitive exams.
The Chief Minister informed that over 9,000 acres of encroached government land have been freed in the state. He emphasized that while a Uniform Civil Code has been implemented, tribal traditions have been kept outside its scope to preserve their heritage. On the occasion, he also announced beautification works at the Tribal Research Institute, construction of a hi-tech girls’ toilet block, and a new dining hall at the Aadi Lakshya Institute.
The event was attended by Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, MLAs Khajan Das, Umesh Sharma Kau, Savita Kapoor, Dalip Singh Rawat, and Tribal Commission Chairperson Leelavati Rana, among others.
