Directs Officials to Ensure Effective Drainage Systems to Prevent Urban and Rural Waterlogging

Instructs for Adequate Pumps to Handle Rainwater Discharge

Chandigarh, July 2 — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed officials to ensure thorough cleaning of all drains and implement effective drainage systems across urban and rural areas to prevent waterlogging during the ongoing monsoon season. He also instructed that adequate pumps must be made available for quick disposal of rainwater.

The Chief Minister issued these directions while presiding over a review meeting via video conferencing with all Deputy Commissioners today.

Highlighting the forecast of heavy rains in the coming days, Mr. Saini instructed the Deputy Commissioners to make all necessary arrangements for rainwater drainage in their respective districts to avoid inconvenience to the public. He directed them to identify potential waterlogging spots and take appropriate measures accordingly.

Adequate Pumps and Backup Power to be Ensured

During the meeting, the Chief Minister took stock of the number of pumps available in each district. He directed that all pumps be maintained in fully operational condition to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater. He also instructed Deputy Commissioners to prepare detailed reports on the pumps available with the Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Urban Local Bodies, Public Health Engineering Department, and Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) so that these can be effectively deployed when needed.

Further, Mr. Saini ordered that all districts upload information related to pump availability on the designated portal and emphasized ensuring backup power arrangements for uninterrupted operation of pump sets.

Thorough Cleaning of Drains and Beautification Measures

Reviewing the progress of drain cleaning works, the Chief Minister issued clear instructions for proper cleaning of drains, especially those passing through urban areas, to prevent overflow issues. He also directed officials to explore the possibility of covering the Gaunchhi drain in Faridabad and implement similar arrangements for other major drains across the state. He emphasized that drains should be beautified and fitted with nets to prevent garbage dumping.

Funds Allocated for Flood Preparedness and Drainage Works

During the meeting, Mr. Saini reviewed progress on various projects, including construction of roads, bridges, and underground pipelines for drainage purposes. It was informed that an amount of Rs 4.50 lakh has been allocated to each district for flood preparedness, while an additional Rs 50 lakh has been provided to the Public Health Engineering Department for drainage works. Additional funds from the State Disaster Response Fund can be allocated if necessary.

The Chief Minister also directed the Deputy Commissioners to take necessary measures to prevent diseases caused by contaminated water and vector-borne illnesses during the monsoon season.

Commitment to Deliver Benefits of Government Schemes to All Eligible Citizens

Mr. Saini instructed officials to ensure prompt resolution of complaints received during “Samadhan Shivirs.” He asserted that the state government is committed to delivering the benefits of various government schemes to every eligible beneficiary on time. In cases where applications are rejected, the reasons should be communicated to the applicant in clear and specific terms. If policy constraints prevent resolution of certain issues, Deputy Commissioners were instructed to forward such cases to the Chief Secretary’s office for appropriate action.

Makarand Pandurang; Director of the Department of Future Dr. Aditya Dahiya; Special Secretary of the Monitoring and Coordination Department Dr. Priyanka Soni; and several other senior officials from various departments.
