CM Nayab Singh Saini Calls for People’s Participation to Make Gurugram No. 1 in Cleanliness Ranking

Chandigarh, September 11 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has said that with efficient administration, strong management, and active public participation, Gurugram must secure the top position in the national cleanliness ranking. He appealed to the residents of Gurugram to contribute towards building a clean, pure, and healthy city under the theme Mera Gurugram – Swachh Gurugram.

On Thursday morning, the Chief Minister joined a mega cleanliness drive under the Haryana City Sanitation Campaign at Sohna Chowk and Sector 52 in Gurugram. He personally participated in the cleaning effort along with sanitation workers, setting an example and encouraging citizens to adopt cleanliness as a way of life. Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma and Sohna MLA Tejpal Tanwar were also present during the campaign.

Addressing the public, Saini said cleanliness forms the foundation of a healthy life, and it must become a permanent lifestyle habit for all citizens. He assured that post-monsoon, development works in Gurugram will gain momentum, improving civic amenities. He further noted that in the coming eleven-week special campaign, a major transformation will be seen in urban sanitation, beautification, and improvement, with Gurugram expected to achieve a prominent rank.


The Chief Minister highlighted that the Swachh Bharat Mission, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014, has now evolved into a mass movement across India. He emphasized that cleanliness is not just a government responsibility but a collective duty of every citizen, starting from their homes and neighborhoods.

He also announced that from September 17, Prime Minister Modi’s birthday, Haryana will observe Seva Pakhwada, which will run until October 2. The fortnight will feature sanitation drives, tree plantation, health camps, sports awareness activities, and public awareness programs aimed at social change.

Saini expressed gratitude to RWAs, business organizations, and social groups for their cooperation in the campaign and urged continued support to keep Gurugram clean and beautiful.

Speaking at the event, Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma said the campaign would not be limited to a single day or week but would continue as a people’s movement. He assured that the initiative would be carried forward with greater energy, planning, and community participation. Sharma added that cleanliness is not just about sanitation but must become an integral part of citizens’ thinking and lifestyle.

The event was attended by Gurugram Mayor Rajrani, GMDA CEO Shyamal Mishra, Divisional Commissioner R.C. Bidhan, Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Rajiv Jaitly, along with officials, employees, and councilors.
