Chandigarh, April 23 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini strongly condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a cowardly act that targeted innocent civilians. Expressing deep condolences, he paid tribute to those who lost their lives and assured their families that the nation stands united against terrorism. “India will never bow to such acts of fear,” he said.
He also spoke with the family of Vinay Narwal, a victim of the attack, assuring them of full support from the Haryana government in this difficult time.
On the same day, CM Saini conducted a walking inspection of Haryana’s first ‘Complete Streets’ project in Udyog Vihar, Sector-18, Gurugram. He said the project represents the state’s commitment to creating inclusive urban spaces where everyone — children, elderly, women, and people with disabilities — can walk safely and with dignity.
He emphasized that the goal of his government goes beyond infrastructure to focus on human development. “Walking, cycling, or catching a bus on these streets is no longer a compulsion — it’s a pleasant experience,” he said. The project demonstrates the power of collaboration between government, private companies, and social organizations, setting an example for all of India.
The ‘Complete Streets’ initiative covers a 2.4 km stretch, 30 meters wide, connecting Old Delhi Road to the Airtel Office (NH 48). With a cost of Rs 23 crore, the project was supported by GMDA, MCG, DHBVN, and the Raahgiri Foundation. Corporates like Nagarro, Maruti Suzuki, and SafeExpress also contributed.
Key features include wide shaded footpaths, protected cycle tracks, bioswales for rainwater harvesting, and preservation of 700 old trees. Over 20,000 flowering plants were added, and four trained street marshals are deployed around the clock to ensure safety. The initiative is expected to inspire similar projects across Haryana and India.
GMDA is now working to redevelop 100 more kilometers of roads across Gurugram over the next two years under this model.
At the event, Cabinet Minister Rao Narbir Singh urged citizens to avoid using polythene and carry reusable bags. He encouraged tree planting as a meaningful gesture to mark birthdays and anniversaries, calling it a gift to future generations.
Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma and other dignitaries were also present.
