Samana (Punjab), June 7, 2025 – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday visited Samana to meet the grieving families of seven schoolchildren who lost their lives in a devastating road accident earlier this week. Describing the incident as “deeply heartbreaking,” Mann pledged justice, accountability, and long-term systemic reforms to prevent such tragedies.
During his visit, CM Mann offered condolences and addressed the core demands of the victims’ families, many of whom had been protesting for action and answers in the aftermath of the incident.
Key Announcements by CM Mann:
Strict Action Against Police Lapses: Mann ordered disciplinary measures against police officials who delayed filing the FIR, declaring that those responsible would be transferred or suspended. “No one will be spared,” he affirmed.
Arrest of Accused Driver: The Chief Minister confirmed that arrest orders have been issued for the truck driver, known locally as Tipper Malik, allegedly responsible for the fatal crash.
Children’s Memorial Park & Trust: A memorial park will be built in the names of the seven victims, and the state will support the families’ initiative to establish a Children’s Memorial Trust.
Dedicated Ambulances: On June 13, new ambulances will be launched across Punjab, with seven specially assigned to Samana. These will bear the label “Children’s Memorial Ambulance.”
Infrastructure & Education Upgrades:
Samana’s government hospital will be modernized.
The local government school will be upgraded to a School of Eminence, with 15–20 new school buses to ensure safe transportation.
The accident-prone road will be converted into a four-lane highway to enhance traffic safety.
Mining Inquiry & Regulation: A judicial inquiry has been launched into illegal mining activities in the region. The CM also announced statewide scrutiny of tipper truck operators, seeking their licenses and medical fitness records to unearth potential irregularities.
Statewide School Bus Safety Check: Mann emphasized the need for rigorous inspections of school buses and driver qualifications throughout Punjab.
CM Mann reiterated that no political affiliation would protect anyone found guilty. “Even if someone belongs to my party, I will not shield them. Accountability is non-negotiable,” he declared.
With these assurances, the grieving families agreed to end their protest. CM Mann assured them that the tragedy would serve as a turning point for road safety reforms in the state.
