Dehradun (Rajeev Sharma): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured a Sikh delegation that the state government is committed to finding a respectful and amicable solution to the long-pending issue of Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib in Haridwar. The assurance came during a meeting with a five-member delegation led by Uttar Pradesh Sikh Gurdwara Coordination Committee President Sardar Parvinder Singh, Advocate.
During the meeting, the delegation reiterated its demand that the historic Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib, associated with the visit of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, be restored to the Sikh community. The issue has remained a matter of religious and historical significance for Sikhs for several decades.
The delegation also expressed gratitude to the Uttarakhand government for ensuring smooth arrangements during the Hemkunt Sahib Yatra, particularly for maintaining security, managing pilgrims’ movement and resolving local issues peacefully. Members appreciated the facilities being provided to thousands of devotees travelling from Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country.
Presenting the community’s concerns, Sardar Parvinder Singh said Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib holds immense spiritual importance as it is believed to have been sanctified by the first Sikh Guru. He informed the Chief Minister that he has consistently pursued the matter since 2017, raising it before various constitutional authorities, including the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand as well as the Governor.
Responding to the delegation, Chief Minister Dhami acknowledged the importance of the issue and said the government was sensitive to the sentiments attached to the historic shrine.
Referring to Sardar Parvinder Singh as a friend from his student days, the Chief Minister remarked that he had always raised issues concerning the Sikh community with sincerity and responsibility. He added that the state government respected the religious sentiments of all communities and was working towards a peaceful and honourable resolution of the matter through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Dhami assured the delegation that the concerns surrounding Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib would receive due consideration and that appropriate steps would be taken while keeping the sentiments of the Sikh community in mind. He also appreciated the efforts being made by Sardar Parvinder Singh to preserve Sikh heritage and safeguard the community’s religious interests.
Following the meeting, members of the delegation expressed optimism that the Chief Minister’s positive approach and commitment could pave the way for meaningful progress on one of the Sikh community’s long-standing demands, bringing renewed hope for the preservation and recognition of the historic religious site.
