CM Bhagwant Mann Takes a Strong Stand Against Corrupt Officials, Ensures Uninterrupted Registry Services

SAS Nagar (Zirakpur), March 4, 2025 – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann made it clear today that his government will not bow down to corrupt officials, especially those facing police action for bribery allegations. Taking an aggressive stance, he toured Zirakpur, Kharar, and Banur tehsil offices to ensure that registry services, which had stalled due to the protest by revenue officers, resumed immediately.

Mann criticized revenue officers for going on mass leave as a pressure tactic after the Vigilance Bureau took action against corrupt officials. He stated, “These officers are essentially demanding a license for corruption. Our government will not be blackmailed, and strict action will be taken against these arrogant and dishonest officials.” He warned that such moves to arm-twist the government would be met with exemplary punishment. The state will soon recruit new tehsildars and revenue officers, and a proposal will be presented in the cabinet for approval.

The Chief Minister condemned the harassment of common people by revenue officials, vowing that the government will ensure uninterrupted services. To tackle the crisis, PCS officers, kanungos, and senior assistants (who have cleared departmental exams for promotion as Naib Tehsildars) have been appointed as sub-registrars to keep land registries running smoothly. He emphasized that democracy empowers the people, and his government will not allow anyone, no matter how influential, to create trouble for the public.

Mann also issued a stern warning to protesting officers, stating that after their leave, it will be the people who decide when and where they will rejoin duty. The government has a Plan B ready, and if needed, registration powers may even be given to teachers and professors to prevent any disruption. He reassured the people that the registration of land and property will continue without hindrance, and officers drawing hefty salaries but refusing to work will not be tolerated.

Mann also addressed the infighting among various farmers’ unions, accusing them of trying to create anarchy under the guise of protests. He acknowledged that peaceful protests are a democratic right, but blocking roads and railways only harms the public and the state’s economy. He urged farmer leaders to engage in discussions with the government instead of causing inconvenience to common people.

On the issue of drug trafficking, the CM reaffirmed his government’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs. He highlighted recent actions, including the demolition of illegal properties belonging to drug smugglers in Narangwal, Ludhiana. He stated that the supply chain of drugs has been dismantled, and major offenders have been put behind bars. He vowed to continue the fight against drugs, urging people to join the movement to make Punjab completely drug-free.
