Chandigarh (Naval Kishore): In a significant step towards promoting clean energy and sustainable urban transport, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Energy Management Cell/SDA under the Engineering Department, U.T. Chandigarh and the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking under the Transport Department, U.T. Chandigarh Administration.
The agreement aims to strengthen collaborative efforts for energy conservation, energy efficiency and sustainable mobility in Chandigarh’s transport sector. The MoU was formally signed by Avikesh Gupta, Director Transport, U.T. Chandigarh and Pawan Kumar Sharma, Head of the Energy Management Cell/SDA Chandigarh. Yashjeet Gupta, Chief Operations Manager of the Chandigarh City Bus Services Society (CCBSS), was also present during the signing ceremony.
Under the collaboration, both departments will work together to encourage the adoption of energy-efficient and low-emission technologies in the transport sector, improve fuel efficiency and promote environmentally sustainable transportation practices across Chandigarh.
The partnership will also focus on organizing awareness campaigns, capacity-building programmes, training sessions and outreach activities aimed at promoting green mobility, responsible energy usage and energy-efficient transportation systems. Officials stated that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Chandigarh Administration to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2030 and Net Zero emissions by 2047, while also improving the city’s ranking in the State Energy Efficiency Index. Through this collaborative effort, the departments aim to reduce overall energy consumption and carbon emissions in the transport sector and foster cleaner, greener and more sustainable urban mobility across Chandigarh.
