Chandigarh (Naval Kishore): Responding to the appeal of Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, senior officials and employees of the Chandigarh Administration actively participated in the “No Vehicle Wednesday” initiative aimed at promoting sustainable and environment-friendly commuting practices.
Under the campaign, officials adopted eco-friendly modes of transport including bicycles, walking, CTU buses, carpooling and e-vehicles to encourage fuel conservation and sustainable mobility across the city.
Chief Secretary H. Rajesh Prasad led the initiative by cycling to his office. Speaking to the media, he said that he personally uses a bicycle for fitness and described the campaign as an important step toward promoting fuel conservation, environmental protection and sustainable mobility. He emphasized that greater public participation in such initiatives would contribute to national development and appealed to prominent citizens to adopt environment-friendly commuting methods to inspire others.



Several senior officials also joined the initiative enthusiastically. Home Secretary Mandip Singh Brar, Chandigarh Police DGP Sagar Preet Hooda, IGP Pushpender Kumar, Director Public Relations Rajiv Tewari, Sports Director Sorabh Kumar Arora and Chief Engineer C. B. Ojha cycled to work. Education Secretary Prerna Puri and Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav walked to their workplaces, while IT Secretary D. Karthikeyan, Additional Secretary Home Amit Kumar, Director Transport Avikesh Gupta and Additional Secretary HAC Akhil Kumar used CTU buses for commuting. Meanwhile, Secretary Social Welfare Department Anuradha S. Chagti, Social Welfare Department Director Radhika Singh and Director Technical Education Palika Arora opted for carpooling, while Director School Education Nitish Singla used an e-vehicle.
The “No Vehicle Wednesday” initiative aims to reduce pollution and traffic congestion, promote fuel conservation and encourage healthier lifestyles through walking and cycling, while reinforcing the importance of sustainable urban mobility.
