Centre Directs IndiGo to Refund Passengers by December 7, Deliver All Mishandled Baggage Within 48 Hours

New Delhi, December 6, 2025: The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Saturday issued strict directives to IndiGo, ordering the airline to complete all pending refunds for cancelled or disrupted flights by 8 PM on December 7 and to trace and deliver all baggage separated from passengers within 48 hours.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu made the announcement on X, stating that IndiGo must immediately clear all refund backlogs and ensure that every affected passenger receives their money without further delay. He added that all mishandled baggage must be located and delivered to the passenger’s home or chosen address within the next two days.

According to the Ministry’s statement, airlines have also been instructed not to levy any rescheduling charges on passengers affected by recent operational disruptions. Any delay or non-compliance in processing refunds will invite immediate regulatory action.

To improve passenger support, IndiGo has been directed to set up dedicated refund facilitation and customer assistance cells. These teams will proactively contact affected travellers to process refunds and arrange alternative travel, ensuring passengers do not need to repeatedly follow up. The Ministry also said the automatic refund system will stay active until operations return to normal.

The Ministry reiterated that all mishandled baggage must be traced and delivered within 48 hours, with airlines required to maintain transparent communication on tracking and delivery timelines. Compensation must be provided wherever applicable under established passenger rights rules.

Officials said the government remains in continuous coordination with airports, airlines, security agencies, and other stakeholders to maintain a “zero-inconvenience” policy for travellers. Oversight mechanisms have been strengthened to ensure seamless facilitation for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, students, and travellers with urgent medical needs. Efforts are underway to restore full operational normalcy as soon as possible.
