Amritsar, May 11, 2025: Amritsar remained in complete darkness throughout Saturday night as a city-wide blackout followed reports of ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the border. Power was restored around 5:20 AM on Sunday, ending hours of uncertainty for residents gripped by fear and confusion.
The blackout came amid a red alert declared across the district, with sources linking the move to suspected drone activity and explosions reported in Pathankot and Amritsar. While official confirmation remains limited, local authorities had ramped up security, deploying forces across key locations and halting civilian movement during the night.
This tense atmosphere followed renewed ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces, who allegedly launched high-speed missiles toward Indian military installations over the weekend. Although there was no major damage, the sudden escalation raised alarm across Punjab, where 12 districts reportedly came under attack over three days.
By early Sunday, the red alert in Amritsar was officially withdrawn, and daily life has begun to normalize. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, as investigations and monitoring continue along the sensitive border zones.
