Chandigarh, December 2 — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini held a courtesy meeting with Canada’s High Commissioner to India, Christopher Cooter, on Tuesday at his residence, Sant Kabir Kutir. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Haryana and Canada across multiple sectors, including education, investment, energy and mining.
The Chief Minister said the state government is committed to transforming Haryana into a global hub for education. During the discussion, Canada expressed interest in collaborating with the state on education, technological partnership and investment, and also explored the possibility of establishing a Canadian university in Haryana.

Officials discussed introducing a fast-track system to simplify investment procedures between Haryana and Canada. The proposed system would streamline approvals, improve inter-departmental coordination, and ensure faster delivery of essential services. Citing Haryana’s rapid economic growth, strong industrial base and investor-friendly policies, the Canadian side showed keen interest in deepening economic and strategic engagement.
This initiative is expected to open new avenues of investment, generate employment and strengthen global partnerships. The state aims to position Haryana as North India’s most reliable global investment destination.
Cooter also discussed opportunities in waste-to-energy projects, power generation and expanding the participation of Haryana’s youth in Canada’s mining sector. Both sides also reviewed a detailed roadmap to attract Canadian investors to Haryana and enhance bilateral business relations.
CM Saini said the government is committed to providing global opportunities to the youth and accelerating the state’s development. Haryana is focusing on skills training aligned with industry needs and creating pathways for overseas employment. He reaffirmed the state’s target of achieving a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2047, with major contributions expected from education, energy and artificial intelligence.
He added that the government is prioritising ease of doing business to make Haryana a preferred global destination for investors. A dedicated Department of Foreign Cooperation has been set up to coordinate with embassies, investors and global partners.
Cooter assured the Chief Minister that the partnership between Haryana and Canada will expand further in the coming years, benefiting the state’s people and youth.
Senior officials, including Chief Principal Secretary Rajesh Khullar, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Additional Principal Secretary Dr. Saket Kumar and Foreign Cooperation Department advisor Pawan Chaudhary, were present during the meeting.
