Canada to Utilize Standard Visa Process for FIFA World Cup 2026 Visitors

Calgary, Rajeev Sharma :- As preparations intensify for the FIFA World Cup 2026, Canada has clarified that it will not introduce a specialized visa category for fans attending matches in the country. Instead, visitors will be required to follow the standard entry procedures already in place. Travelers from visa-exempt countries will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) if arriving by air, while citizens of non-visa-exempt nations must apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).

Officials noted that most TRVs are issued as multiple-entry visas, enabling fans to enter and exit Canada multiple times throughout the validity period of their travel document. Authorities further stressed that purchasing a FIFA World Cup ticket does not guarantee a Canadian visa. Applicants must meet the usual eligibility requirements, such as proof of sufficient funds, confirmed travel arrangements, and strong ties to their home country. With the tournament drawing millions of fans worldwide, Canada’s clarification comes as welcome guidance – particularly for supporters from countries like India, where U.S. visa wait times remain significantly long. Toronto and Vancouver, Canada’s two host cities, are expected to welcome tens of thousands of international visitors during the global sporting event. Officials have urged football enthusiasts planning to attend to submit their visa applications early to avoid processing delays and ensure smooth entry during the World Cup.
