Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Canada is currently experiencing one of its most severe cold snaps in half a century, with temperatures dipping to as low as –50°C in several regions. This extreme cold is affecting communities nationwide, making it the harshest winter in decades.

From coast to coast, all provinces are shrouded in frigid Arctic air:
• Western Canada: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba report subzero temperatures, with Prairies facing dangerous wind chills and icy conditions.
• Central Canada: Ontario and Quebec are seeing prolonged bitter cold, impacting transportation and increasing energy demands.
• Atlantic Canada: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador are contending with freezing temperatures, strong winds, and heavy snow in some areas.
• Northern regions: Communities in the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut are enduring the most extreme lows, with temperatures plummeting well below –40°C.

Meteorologists warn that the Arctic air mass responsible for this historic cold will linger in parts of the country, creating hazardous conditions for travel and daily life. Authorities are urging Canadians to dress warmly, limit outdoor activities, and check on vulnerable populations as the nation faces this unprecedented winter chill.
